Eugene A. MALTEZ (he/they) is a Nicaraguan American artist who lives and works in Chicago. His work embodies a neo-minimalist aesthetic, embracing flaws in the making process through a pragmatic and straightforward approach to art. His work often reflects on the intersection of personal and cultural narratives, engaging viewers in a dialogue about contemporary society. Eugene’s practice is driven by a deep exploration of process, where imperfections are acknowledged as integral to the work’s overall meaning.

 

He studied at California State University and East Los Angeles College before earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014. Eugene has exhibited his work at various venues, including A-Z West House, Chinese American Museum of Chicago, Sullivan Galleries, Vincent Price Art Museum, and Center for the Study of Political Graphics. He has also exhibited internationally in Austria, England, and Mexico.
